2012 Battle of Los Angeles takes place September 1 & 2!

Postby PWG_Silverback » Sun Jul 22, 2012 8:04 pm

Originally, the 2012 Battle of Los Angeles was envisioned as a two-day tournament, like the majority of previous Battle of Los Angeles events. However, there were some very practical obstacles standing in the way of a two-day event taking place. First, American Legion Hall #308 in Reseda, CA, was available on September 1, but had another event scheduled for September 2. Second, 2006 Battle of Los Angeles winner Davey Richards had a scheduling conflict that prevented him from competing in this year's tournament. Third, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen was scheduled to face see Comedy World Champion Louis C.K. in Atlantic City, NJ on September 1.

Fortunately, due to a cancellation at the Legion Hall, September 2 opened up, and a two-day tournament was now possible. On top of that, Davey Richards was able to resolve his scheduling conflict earlier today, and asked to be added to the tournament, even if it had to be as an alternate. Finally, Kevin Steen's loss to El Generico in the 2011 Battle of Los Angeles finals was so galling to Steen that the World Champion canceled his vacation in order to, in his words, "win the whole thing."

With those factors in mind (and a couple extra Louis C.K. tickets on StubHub), we are pleased to announce that the 2012 Battle of Los Angeles will now take place on September 1 and 2, 2012, with 16 competitors fighting to call themselves a Battle of Los Angeles winner!

The 2012 Battle of Los Angeles - Stage 1 takes place on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 8:00PM at American Legion Post #308. The 2012 Battle of Los Angeles - Stage 2 takes place on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at 6:00PM at American Legion Post #308. American Legion Post #308 is located at 7338 Canby Ave., Reseda, CA 91335. 12 men = 3 way final? 10 matches if it is, which seems like a tight squeeze for one show, but not enough for two, so I'm guessing it will be a good long night in the Legion Hall.

For some reason I feel underwhelmed by the lineup, but I think that's just because I wish TJP was in there.

Read it again. 6 one on one matches, two three ways, and a one on one final. 9 matches.

And I disagree about the lineup. I think it's great.

Hard to believe this is B-Boys 1st BOLA, Imagine all the potential matches; Cole Vs. Generico, Drake Vs. Generico, Elgin Vs. Ricochet, Eddie Vs. B-Boy, Eddie Vs. Sami... gonna be sick.

The finals has to be Brian Cage/Willie Mack after what went down on Saturday.

Since 11 of the 12 guys were at the last show, hopefully there were more promos cut?

First round matches, anyone?

Predictions:

- Eddie Edwards vs. El Generico (rematch from their ASW match; it was scheduled once but got scrapped)
- Michael Elgin vs. Ricochet (Elgin has said he wanted this match)
- B-Boy vs. Drake Younger (rematch from what some say stole the show at Threemendous 3)
- Kyle O'Reilly vs. Roderick Strong
- Sami Callihan vs. Adam Cole (this needs to happen, these 2 know each other real well)
- Brian Cage vs. Willie Mack

^ Part of me thinks Cage/Mack could be the finals, but they could surprise us by making it a Round 1 match. If this becomes a long-term feud, this would be a perfect start. Cage wins via screwy finish, then later Mack screws Cage out of a Semi or Final match win.

I'm hoping that it's Wille Mack versus Brian Cage in the finals and Steen comes out and says, "Fuck it! I'm going to end both of your dreams!" and it's a three-way final. If Steen wins, though, there will be no official winner of the BOLA tourney.

Not sure if you're trolling me, but the tourney is set up as first round singles matches, two second round/semi-final 3-way matches and the final is one-on-one. Steen is not an official entrant. If my scenario happens (Cage vs. Mack) and Steen decides to join in and make it a 3-way match for the title and wins, would you consider him the BOLA champ, even though he didn't wrestle earlier in the night and would have a size-able advantage over his opponents? Unless they announce more matches and Steen faces off against the most requested challenger in PWG history---"Pretty" Peter Avalon (that dude is like 2 Joey Ryans or 3 Candice Leraes or 4 Johnny Yumas).

This would never happen, I think most fans would be pissed off if this happened (myself included). Its probally the most pristegious tournament in the indys right now and it should and will be about the 2 guys who earn their way to the finals. Honestly I would be surprised if Steen is even on this show considering there are already 7 singles matches.

I'm freakin' out, maaaaaaan! I hope tix aren't on sale until at least Friday when I get paid. I'm working with a shoestring budget until then and have to buy 2 tix for each show. Holy Monkey Wrench, Batman! As for who I'd like to see as the final four...Chuck Taylor, Akira Tozawa, Super Dragon and Kenny Omega are the first guys who come to mind (sure, a little wishful thinking on a few of those...but that's who I'D want!). Also hope to see the SSB defend the tag straps against The RockNES Monsters
