I'm really excited about this DVD release. I was a fan of their ECW documentary and I have hopes for this one but I also have some reservation. I'm afraid of there being more bias and revisionist history. I think it's cool they put in the effort to interview former WCW stars and not just keep the interviews in house. This set should hit streets on August 25th.

That's what every one of WWE's damn releases are, Revisionist bs. Like WWE was always 10 steps ahead of everyone else. Was Verne Gagne too old school to keep AWA going or was it Vince BUYING every single worker that had something to do with AWA closing? I'm sure ass kisser Jim Ross will be on this WCW dvd and say his usual "Nobody could ever compete with Vince" bs, Even though JR was employed by NWA/WCW for over a decade he'll still crap on them.
Well here is the first comments I've come across about the DVD.
The DVD totally ignores Benoit, and even the 4 Horseman with Malenko & Benoit. Never mentioned. And the whole Vince Russo era is glossed over fairly quickly, ending with the Hogan/Jarret "lay down" job. And during that, they pretty much trash Jarret, saying how he never put people in seats, and J.R. basically trashing him since he's a rival at TNA.
All the inteviews with Bischoff are from the previous Monday Night War DVDs.
The best parts are some insight by the Crockett's on the selling of World Championship Wrestling to Turner, and the different people that tried running it before Bischoff, as well as some of the Goldberg stuff with some new interviews with him. I especially liked in the extras Goldberg talking of the creation of the character, and the way the name came about.
But much of the retrospective is presented thru the McMahon Looking Glass, especially his take-over of the Super Station time slot.
This set could/should have been so much better.
I'm disappointed that they didn't get any new interviews with Bischoff. It kind of just lends credibility to the notion that WWE has gotten a bit lazy with their DVD releases as of late. I still want to see it for myself.
i am seriously pissed off on how they ignore Benoit completely. i know what happened was a shocking and a disaster no one ever thought seeing, but this man is a legend to PRO WRESTLING and not that bullshitt "sports entertainment" mcmahon/wwe garbage he puts on on mondays and fridays. will this dvd even be good for the extra matches??
So many things they didn't even bother to discuss like...
Hogan pretty much burying Vader, Dungeon of Doom and Flair(Beat him 4 straight times before moving him onto something else)
The good part of the Bill Watts tenure like Ron Simmons becoming first Black WCW Champ, Gordy and Williams/Steiners feud, Vader/Sting etc.
The signing of Bret Hart and why that was such a big deal and why WCW couldn't seem to duplicate his success in WWE.
More in-depth thoughts on the departures of Guerrero, Malenko, Jericho, Show, Benoit and Saturn.
The downfall of the NWO and their thousand re-incarnations.
The importance of the 4 Horsemen.
The importance of Flair/Steamboat.
More thoughts about the WCW/New Japan partership, How it started? Key moments and when did it start to go bad?
But as everyone said it's revisionist history and the story that Vince wanted told.
Match selection is great except for Flair/Giant, NWO/Horsemen, Luger and Sting in War Games, Booker/Lance, Outsiders/Steiners and DDP/Malone vs. Hogan/Rodman.
