RIP Sherry Martel

Sadly, one of the greatest women in wrestling has passed away.

she will be sorely missed.

PWInsider.com is sorry to report the passing of WWE Hall of Famer Sherri Martel Martel, a former WWF and AWA Women's champion, is probably best known in her role of the best female heel managers during her run in the 1990s with the WWF, working with Shawn Michaels, Ted DiBiase, and Randy Savage, among others. Moving to WCW in 1994, she worked on top with Ric Flair and The Harlem Heat tag team.

Martel was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame in Chicago during Wrestlemania 21 weekend and still made semi-regular appearances at conventions and media events. Jakks Pacific had just released a Classic Superstars action figure in her honor.

Martel was only 49 years old.

She was truely one of the greatest/nicest wrestlers I've ever met.

She was a helluva manager in the early 90's. She was really instrumental in getting Shawn Michaels over the hump as a singles competitor. We're all gonna miss her dearly.

Not yet revealed. We'll probably have to wait for the autopsy, which will take some time.

the really sad thing is that Sherri's death is being overshadowed by Vince's fake death/

From wrestlingunlimited.com:

"On his Wrestling Observer Live radio show Sunday night, Dave Meltzer stated that Sherri Martel didn't die of natural causes. According to Meltzer, "This was not a typical wrestler's death," "Not a suicide," and "She did not die of natural causes." The case is currently under investigation by law enforcement. Police were in abundance at Martel's mother's residence in Birmingham, Alabama where the WWE Hall of Famer was found dead Friday morning, according to her husband of 10 years, Robert Schrull. Meltzer knows more about the situation at hand, but he didn't want to specifically say anything until he has more information on the case. Meltzer plans on talking to the police later today to gather more information regarding her sudden death.

When Martel passed away on Friday, there were a number of people in WWE who were downright embarrassed by the way her death was placed far down on the company's website, under all of the reports of Vince McMahon's "demise." It has led to discussions internally about ending the angle, but in the end, the storyline will likely continue. "
