Fred Mertz Night of Appreciation

Postby CheMateo » Sat Jun 02, 2007 11:16 pm

With Roger Dorn night approaching, I was thinking that it would be nice if PWG could one day do a show in honor of one TV's great sidekicks Fred Mertz. His contribution and dedication sometimes gets lost when people think of I Love Lucy. Remember, he was a drunk womanizer before the show started and he stayed sober through its 6 year or so run, never once showing up drunk on set. He was never the center of attention but he was a good supporting character in that show. I think it would be a nice gesture.

Here are two clips related to Mertz:

Man old American propaganda footage can be quite hilarious.

Maybe the best character from the greatest sitcom. I love how Vivian Vance, who played Ethel, couldn't stand him and wondered who would believe her marrying such an old man.

Awesome, I feel like winning a war now for some reason.

Anyway, I fully support this idea. I was always a big William Frawley mark. I Love Lucy wouldn't have been the same without him. I also liked him on "My Three Sons" where he basically played the same part.

Ed O'neil made a great joke on Married With Children once about how No one could stand the annoying red head, or the hag old enough to be her mother, or that "illegal immigrant," and said that Fred should have killed them all with a shotgun so the show could've been about him, a real man's man. lol

I endorse Fred Mertz Night.

Mertz' World! That was one of the greatest moments in Married With Children history.

I fully support a Fred Mertz Appreciation Night.

If you don't know who Roger Dorn is now, you don't deserve to know who he is.

I think I agree with Andy here. If you don't know who he is you probably wouldn't understand the joke. It's better if you figure it out on your own.

I know I'm not the only one. I even looked him up on wikipedia. Oh well, I don't care enough to get a straight answer.

Well I figured it out, it's just been such a long time since I've seen Major League that I forgot his name.
