PWG Refs

Postby CheMateo » Wed Jan 25, 2006 1:28 pm

I came into PWG after ref Patrick Hernandez, I believe his name was, had left. Why did he leave? And something else I've wondered about, why does Knox tape his fist?

Pat left for personal reasons, he's been around as a ref for a really long time (7, 8 years?) and I think he got to that point that making the shows all the times takes a toll on your life.

He tapes his fists because deep down he's a bad ass and is ready for whatever comes his way!

Not sure about Hernandez but the refs have been pretty bad besides Marty. As far as Knox it could either be that he once broke his hand or his package is made of glass and he gets cut up when he goes at it.

Knox and Hernandez were the all-star squad once upon a time. I give Marty a hard time, but he's very consistant. He refs a different style than Knox and Hernandez, as he is more animated than his counterparts.

Poor Aaron Hasson. He's been around the SoCal scene longer than I have, so I feel inclined to root for him. He can be animated too, moreso verbally. He has the craziest one-liners ever. But his last few miscues haven't done him any favors lately.

Before Knox and Hernandez though, Adam Marantz and Jason McCord laid the law down in SoCal, and they did a mighty fine job.

Knox, Marty and Aaron is a fine trio to run with. Let Aaron have the openers again and have his confidance worked back up.

Knox is about as good a ref as your going to get. He really takes his job seriously. I wasn't as big of fan of Pat and Marty has been around a while too. That's one thing, all three of them plus Aaron all have loads of experience.

If Hasson gets a lesser role in PWG, I sure would like to see Platafuckingnitos step up. That, or everyone's favorite long-haired blading ref, El Indio. Those two can give Knox and Hernandez a run for their money.

I can see it now.........

Dragon gets pissed at Indio, Dragon goes for a lariat, Indio ducks, Dragon hits the ropes, Indio picks him up in a torure rack type hold, then BAM! Psycho Driver on Dragon, Indio just runs his hands in his hair and leaves the PWG arena to never be seen from again.

I say fire Knox, Hassan, and Marty and hire Indio and Platanitos. Plus, Steve Daulton Jr. is only good for dancing.

You all seem to know a good deal about refs. Here's a question for you.

How do you become a ref for a wrestling promotion? Do you just show up and ask to start training? And along that line, how much training do you need to do as far as the physical nature of the job, not so much the rules?

Feel free to call me a jackass, but as a long time wreslting fan, I always looked over this aspect of it and as I try to establish a career to make money, I'd love to start ref'n in my spare time.

I think I remember someone saying that refs are the guys who can't make it as pro wrestlers so they do that instead. Anyways, I'm sure they do some type of training for that at a wrestling school.

For those that want to ref, I would suggest heading over to EWF's school and inquiring about that. I'm sure basic wrestling training would be beneficial. Once you get your feet wet, start reffing EWF and other various shows to get experience under your belt. SoCal could use some more good refs!
