Ferris Bueller Returns — In a Super Bowl Ad?
Matthew Broderick's mysterious YouTube clip is a preview for a Honda commercial, according to one report.

It doesn’t take much for us to tune in to a good Super Bowl storyline. Even if it’s one that has nothing to do with football and everything to do with Matthew Broderick resurrecting his most memorable character in a mysteriously brief YouTube spot.

So, yes, Ferris Bueller is sort of back. “How can I handle work on a day like today?” Broderick says in the clip, standing in a bathrobe in what looks like a hotel room and uttering a middle-aged version of his classic Day Off refrain. And then it ends, with the “2.5.12.” Super Bowl date as a teaser.

And then pretty much everyone online took a stab at what the clip could mean. Is it some sort of ad put out by a Super Bowl advertiser that will be expanded into a running storyline during the game? Or is it, pretty please, an announcement of a real sequel?

On Friday morning, car-talk website Jalopnik posted an exclusive, reporting that, according to its sources, the spot is a teaser for more commercials during the Super Bowl sponsored by Honda. “The big jump the two valets do in Cameron’s dad’s Ferrari?” the site wrote. “We hear this time it’s going to be a Honda CR-V.” Jalopnik also says that car company brought on director Todd Phillips to helm the spots.

If the report holds, that would mean that the Super Bowl’s millions of viewers could find themselves staring at commercials starring a graying Ferris Bueller in a Hangover-addled 30-second plot line that involves the character careening around in Honda vehicles. Sounds par for the course for Bowl ads — meaning, it might be surreally fun.

Yeah, same here. At the very least it may turn out to be one of the better advertisements. I am looking forward to the new Avengers preview that is going to air during the Bowl.
