Super Tuesday

Postby CheMateo » Tue Feb 05, 2008 8:46 pm

Hoping to stir some more political orientated conversation. Did you good folks participate in Super Tuesday? I received a lot of phone calls from both parties even though I'm registered as an Independent. I remember receiving a call from John McCain and from some rap/hip hop artist sending me a neutral message just encouraging me to vote.

Colbert is gaining a lot of steam in his campaign in the Marvel universe ya know.

I voted. I'm lucky to be living not far from a polling place (only a few blocks away in my suburban neighborhood). To get in my car, drive to the polls, get in line, vote, and drive back home in time for a Ninja Warrior rerun took me less than 12 minutes.

I was surprised to see however that among asian voters in California who voted Democrat that about 75% of them voted for Hillary, while 25% voted for Barack. Hillary also led among Latino voters in California 2 to 1, with 66% to Barack Obama's 33%. Obama however led Clinton in both the white & black voters. I have however heard conflicting reports of who dominated the white-female voters.

It's looking right now as though McCain picked up a lot of key-wins, and while Hillary got the bigger wins, Obama got the most wins.

It should be interesting to see who gets the nomination for their parties.

It should also be interesting to see who is picked to be running mates for both parties. Edwards probably hasn't endorsed anyone yet until he has an idea of who will lead the Democrats because he's probably hoping to be rewarded with a Vice President ticket for his endorsement. However the Democrats know that a Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama ticket would be unbeatable in November. Both Hillary & Barack have probably already come to that consensus, and may have already agreed to running together regardless of who gets the presidential nomination. This would leave Edwards hopes dashed; that is if he still has any.

McCain & Romney seem to be in a similar boat, but McCain has a bit of an edge. Huckabee however seems to be a strong contender as a running-mate for either Romney or McCain. Romney & McCain are too radically different to unite the Republican party if they were to run together. Huckabee is likable to all ends of the Republican spectrum. He's conservative enough to gurantee the Evangelicals, but liberal enough on some issues to capture the less conservative voters. He also has a significant chunk of votes to bargain with.

I'm thinking the November ballot will read...

Clinton/Obama
McCain/Huckabee

Personally I'd prefer Obama to be the frontrunner, and I like Huckabee enough to consider voting for him, but not with McCain or Romney as his runningmate. My only gripes with Huckabee are that he compromises his own personal views more than any other candidate depending on where he is and who he's trying to solicit a vote from. McCain would've been a nice option 8 years ago, but he's flip-flopped so much, and has jumped at the chance to kiss Bush's buttcheeks on so many occassions.

Hillary's idea for universal healthcare doesn't appeal to me, but Obama's plan of only making it manditory for minors is a good idea, but I would like to see more planning. I'm also not too fond of Hillary's voting record with regards to Iraq. Plus her long standing political career is favorable to more special interest groups and that is disturbing when contrasted with how many people Obama will owe favors to by comparison.

I voted too. I voted for Barack. But I think I heard on MSNBC not too long ago that Hillary took the majority of female voters in California.

I was surprised to see however that among asian voters in California who voted Democrat that about 75% of them voted for Hillary, while 25% voted for Barack.
Really, you're surprised? I have some relatives who are entirely Asian and while they may not be fully or overtly racist they would rather support whites rather than blacks. I don't mean to come off as some generalizing fool but it is true. For example on my Wii they played as every character except the poor black guy. Their friends and relatives always have some sort of ridiculous generalization of racial issues. Whatever.

I was mildly amused by Huckabee's ad campaign with Norris but I really think he may be the worst of the lot of Republicans. But then again I'm not really a fan of the party or potential candidates. Huckabee has struck me as the most zealous religious candidate when compared to Romney and McCain. He has been quoted as saying

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family."

The last thing we need is another President who let's his religion influence his political policy too much.

This seems to be McCain's night for the Republican ticket. He seems to be just sweeping ahead. I feel that he may indeed represent the Republicans as President. I'm not sure who he may pick as his running mate.

Which state is it that Barack and Hillary are separated by a margin of 1%? Barack has barley taken that state. With it being that close I believe Hillary is entitled to a recount.
