Combustible liquids

Postby CheMateo » Mon Feb 04, 2008 6:39 pm

I was warming up some soup when I recalled a conversation I had with my cousin awhile back. He claimed that he had warmed up some tea in the microwave. After he took it out he put his spoon into the cup to stir it. As the spoon made contact with the liquid, it exploded shooting out of his cup like a projectile. The hot contents barley missed him.

I have always been skeptical about his story but I've always wondered if that is actually possible. It sounds like something that would be tested on MythBusters. Does anyone know if there is some sort of chemical reaction that happens in such a scenario or has MythBusters proved or debunked this situation?
