Brock's UFC debut

Postby CheMateo » Sat Feb 02, 2008 9:12 pm

Just wondering if anyone else saw Brock Lesnar's UFC debut against Mir. I was actually looking forward to this match. I thought it was later in the month so it surprised me when my friend told me it was this weekend.

Anyway Brock actually had Mir sweating. Brock was just beating the stuffing out of Mir. He was delivering a barrage of hard punches to Mir's face. I kept hoping the ref would stop the match or Brock would knockout Mir.

But while Mir was struggling to gain an advantage he managed to get Brock in an ankle lock and make Brock tap. I was a bit disappointed but it was to be expected as Brock is still green in MMA. But it was fun and I look forward to seeing Brock's future matches. I'm sure you can find it on youtube soon but you better check it out soon as Zuffa acts quick and gets those matches pulled almost immediately.

Brock did have support from the wrestling community. Kurt Angle was in attendance. I was surprised to see The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin as well. It was a neat outing.

I'm glad he lost in the first round.

Surley you jest? Do you realize how much money Dana White was investing in Brock? He brough advertising on TNA, he brought WWE Footage from Brock, aswell as a front page ad on WWE.com.

Brock is suppose to replace Randy Coture leaving the company, im pretty sure Dana was preying Mir would lose.

With that said im not surprised Brock lost. I really though Brock was gonna destroy Mir when the match was first announce but as the date got close i realized noone in the world was giving Mir a chance against Brock and that had to drive Mir. Plus i saw Brocks MMA debut and he really had one stragety in that match, which was punch.

I think if Brock had 2 or 3 more matches under his belt he would have had tonight locked up. But he really had no experience what so ever.

First, use a spell check. Second, White only bought time from TNA & WWE to get their viewers to buy his PPV. It might seem wacky to you and me, but the casual wrestling fan without the internet probably didn't know Lesnar was even fighting without these promos. Brock looked good in the beginning of the fight but tapped out fast. Just as scripted...

Brock is still the man...even though he lost he still fucked Mir up. He'll get better with time. I'd like to see him go back to Pro Wrestling though...maybe give TNA a shot

I was eager to see what Brock could do in UFC. Although I had a feeling at the bottom of my stomach that he would lose. But hey the guy did good and he took his loss gracefully. It's not like he got beat up. Brock dominated the fight but just basically lost due to his inexperience in submissions.

I just hope he continues to train hard and becomes a well rounded fighter. I'd like for him to shut up his detractors who were belittling Brock because of his wrestling past.

I thought it was a good fight. I almost didn't expect Brock to win, but I thought he would look strong enough to show he belongs. I look forward to see who he will fight next.

White is trying to build up Brock to be the UFC champion, i really don't think there is a chance in hell he would want Brock to lose. I mean Lesnar earned more coin losing that Mir did winning.

I don't find it strange at all that Mir made him tap fast. From what i hear Mir's style is using submission moves. Im sure he was in the position to easily break his ankle and that made Brock tap.

I just watched the match, Lesnar was def screwed when Mir put that ankle lock in. Lesnar seems to have one plan and that was punch Mir, and while he did have Mir down for most of the match he really didn't put force behind alot of his punches. I think thats what lead to his loss. And he punched Mir in the back of the head more than one time. He had like 3 or 4 good shots.

He had no heart in wreslting, was "too big of a star" to defend the IWGP title, fucking over NJPW terribly, was a waste in the NFL. His ego is way too big and money is the only thing that drives him.

I wanted Brock to win. I was cheering for him because a friend reminded me that I should cheer for a pro wrestler since I am a wrestling fan and the world sees wrestling as a joke. But going into the fight there was no reason for me to believe that Lesnar was actually GOING to win. Even though Mir has not been the same since his accident, only a fool (or a risk seeker) would have bet money that Lesnar was actually going to win.

In Brocks defense he did display some great amateur wrestling skills ala Dan Severn, Randy Couture, Mark Coleman, Kevin Randlemen, Kevin Jackson, Mark Kerr, etc. He also knocked Mir down with 1 punch which I thought was very impressive. The referee also WAY over reacted to the glancing blows to the back of Mir's head. Still, I think Brock's pre-existing star power and lack of experience caused him to be in a fight that he was in no way ready for. He was in way over his head.

Only time will tell if Mir has completely recovered from the accident or if Brock was simply no match for him at that point in time.
