I was just wondering how everyone ended up here. Sorry if this thread has already been done. I couldn't find it.
Well I have always been chopping and changing through the different campanys. Watch WWf and WCW when I was young until 2006, then I found TNA and was amazed, it had some of my old favorites and heaps of new guys I have never heard of.
Then in 2008, I was sick of the crap from WWE and TNA, so I looked else where, CZW caught my eye because of its hardcore style. That grew old fast.
Then I found ROH, now this is how wrestling should be. I finaly found a place that I liked. But in the background, I kept hearing of another place. PWG. Just looked and thought, thats abit to far down for me.... They are wrestling on basketball courts, so I forgot about em'.
Now 2009, I am on youtube. I have been looking around for some cool wrestling stuff. SUPER DRAGON! The king of awesome. I instantly liked this wrestler. He was a total badass in the ring with some crazy moves. But that was still not yet enough for me to buy some DVDs. So still looking around for Super Dragon stuff. I find a vid, "PWG: Super Dragon vs. Kevin Steen Feud Music Video". WOW. November rain, Kevin Steen and Super Dragon = Awesomeness. That really got me thinking, I should pick up PWG Sells Out. So while I am waiting for it to arrive (I live in Australia) I was looking for other PWG vids and stummble across "PWG: The Chris Hero Vs. Human Tornado Saga". Now I am sold. Hero is in my opinion one of the best out there, he is a good wrestler and a fantastic character. He is the current champ..... I wanna be here.
The two vids I was talking about (even if you guys have all seen them already).
Steen vs Dragon.
Hero vs Tornado.
"I'm ending your career! I'm ending your f*cking life!"
I knew about them for a long time thanks to socaluncensored and I was familar with a few of the wrestlers thanks to UPW so I was pretty sure I would have a good time. However, I didn't start attending until a few years ago because of not being able to get weekends off. Working retail stinks. When I got a different jobs with weekends off, I guess I just became a regular at the shows.
The Hero/Tornado video was mine. Glad it inspired you to look more into PWG.
As for the topic, I guess I am one of the original PWG fans. I became a huge fan of the Super Dragon and the RevPro crew after seeing them on the old XPW/EPIC TV shows. So I was pretty excited when I read the initial PWG announcement on SoCalUncensored. I attended the first show, and have been attending shows regularly ever since.
The power of the internet, lol. I used to post on some wrestling forum and got into ROH. Then from there I gradually started checking out more companies. One day I decided to check out PWG and saw "PWG Sells Out" on the site and just had to have it. So I ordered it and I've been hooked since.
LA Times article? When was this? BTW, Youtube got me into PWG originally, and I wanted to see them for myself right away since I live in LA. Well, one by one my friends could not go, so I stopped by my house after work instead to change and told my fiance that I was going stag. She felt sorry for me and said that she would accompany me (FYI, she and I used to fight when I would watch WWF (when it was good) for the hours it was on and would not want to be called during the showtimes). So we went to Based on a True Story, and it got her hooked onto PWG and now she owns more wrestling t-shirts than I do.
I have been a die hard ROH fan from day one, and I had always heard and read about PWG. Since I live in Las Vegas and ROH hasn't been out here since 2007, I figured I could go to PWG to see the ROH wrestlers. Since almost 90% of PWG's wrestlers are in ROH as well. I can see all of my favorites in person and not on DVD, which doesn't do certain matches justice.
I started going to UPW shows in 2003 and remember getting flyers for PWG shows back then but never thought of it. Then one day I discovered SoCalUncensored and started browsing and found PWG and started looking them up since they were using guys from ROH that I wanted to see. Finally in 2005 I attended Earnest P and i've been at shows ever since
It all started when I noticed that everyone had Joey Ryan as a friend on myspace. Then a couple of weeks later I went to pwtorch and saw results for PWG Beyond The Thunderdome It said Chris Sabin vs. Joey Ryan in Hollywood. So I was like what the heck Chris Sabin wrestles in California? Then remembered the name Joey Ryan saying "Hey that's the guy from myspace." So after I read the results I got interested, so I went to the pwg website. I saw it was promoting All Star Weekend 3, and saw the names of Chris Sabin, Matt Sydal, and Joey Ryan. I was like hell yeah this is only 2 hours away. I should go for the weekend. Then when I got there and saw the opener with Disco Machine and Excalibur vs TopGun Talwar and Bino Gambino I got hooked. That weekend was so awesome. It was worth all of that time driving, and looking for that JCC.
"John, these 65,000 idiots think were taking them to the Super Bowl!"
I started getting into roh at around late 2006 by watching it on the wrestling channel and I was cool with just that for a while. Eventually I started looking into other feds and when I started watching the various Chris Bosh videos on youtube I was sold. I have 5 shows so far and I love the whole laid back and relaxed feel there is to the shows where everything isn't SUPER SERIOUS like roh. I'm currently waiting on the Best Of PWG set to be restocked since the shipping costs on highspots nearly gave me a heart attack..
P.S. I don't know how to make videos show up either
Word on the internet was that this place was tearing it up. So I ordered some DVDs from PWG (luckily I was able to buy the pre-highspots shows) and started at the beginning. Kinda boring actually. It's exactly how I got into ROH. It was easier to "take the plunge" into buying PWG DVDs because I was familiar with a good percentage of the wrestlers through ROH, so I guess they contributed a little too.
I got into PWG when I moved out to LA in May 05. I mostly went because of the TNA guys but I grew to love all the local talent. Though I am no longer living in LA I am a diehard PWG fan for life. It was the best 4 years of my life going to PWG shows.
i first discovered them around 2005 maybe. one of the wrestling "dirt sheet" sites that i frequent would post PWG results every now and then, I'm presuming sent in by people who attended the shows. I was immediately attracted by the TNA/ROH names and "Los Angeles" being in the same tagline. I wasn't even aware that there were any indies left in socal after upw and xpw fell off the map. After that I did some youtube-ing and the first show i was able to attend was all star weekend 5.
